Dozens of trademark applications filed for the phrase Je suis Charlie
The terrorist attack in Paris has given rise to numerous applications on the tragically famous phrase Je suis Charlie.
According to the French Patent Office, the phrase cannot be registered due to lack of distinctive character. Neither can it be registered as a slogan for its wide public use. Furthermore, the classes of services for which the applications have been filed are questionable.
Joachim Roncin, author of this slogan, has expressed his disapproval, finding the use of a tragic event such as this for financial gain disgraceful.
